AN Aberystwyth supermarket has been forced to close its doors following heavy rain on Monday.

Flash floods forced both Iceland and Lidl on Rheidol Retail Park to close their doors early on Monday.

Iceland re-opened its doors to customers on Tuesday morning, but bosses at Lidl confirmed this afternoon that the store remains temporarily closed.

A spokesperson for the company said on Tuesday afternoon: “We can confirm our store in Aberystwyth is temporarily closed whilst our teams assess any damage that may have been caused due to the heavy rainfall.

“We hope to get the store re-opened as soon as possible, and apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

The heavy rain also forced restaurant Little Italy to reschedule its planned reopening post-lockdown and also forced stationery store, Inkwells on Terrace Road to temporarily close.

Further thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast for much of Wales today, Wednesday and Thursday, with the Met Office having a yellow weather warning in place.
