Women in the Aberystwyth and Tregaron areas who were born in the 1950s can get help to make a formal complaint about the lack of notice they received about the loss of up to six years of their state pension.

Members of Ceredigion WASPI (Women Against State Pension Injustice) and a member of MP Ben Lake’s team will be on hand at drop-in advice sessions at Aberystwyth Library on Wednesday, 26 June, and Whilen y Porthmyn in Tregaron on Wednesday, 10 July, both from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Approximately 5,000 women in Ceredigion have lost up to £45,000 each due to the Pension Acts of 1995 and 2011.

Many did not receive official notice of these changes at all. For those who did, it came only a short time before they expected to retire at 60.

Wendy Clarke, a volunteer helper at the advice sessions, explained: “There has recently been a Judicial Review of the pensions changes in the Royal Courts of Justice but the decision won’t be published for a while.

“It is still important that women born in the 1950s register their complaints. You can download template letters from the WASPI website but not everyone is happy to do this, or has access to a computer, so we are here to help.”
