Residents and visitors to Tywyn will be able to discover more about the history and legacy of the town with the unveiling of a new historical trail.

Saturday, 13 July marked the official opening of Tywyn Town Trail, a project dedicated to celebrating and educating about the town’s past.

Taking place in Tywyn’s Beachside café, the opening ceremony featured speeches by local MP Liz Saville Roberts and Quentin Deakin, secretary of Tywyn and District History Society and key contributor to the project (as well as a town councillor), with entertainment provided by the Bro Dysynni Male Voice Choir.

The idea of creating a heritage trail to document the town’s history was conceived by Tywyn and District History Society. Compelled by an enthusiasm and a desire to find out more about the untold stories of Tywyn, the group applied and were accepted for a National Heritage Lottery grant to help fund the project.

Plans also won the support of local councillors and businesses, all hoping to dig deeper into Tywyn’s past and draw many curious walkers to the local area.

The trail is comprised of both an ‘Old Town’ walk and a longer Seaside Walk, exploring touchstones such as the promenade, Talyllyn Railway, school and memorial hospital.

Information display boards have been placed around the town in locations of interest, accompanied by bilingual leaflets providing the background to each of these places.
