THE holidaymaker who disappeared after being swept off rocks at Mwnt last month has been named.

There has been no trace found of Luke Morton, 23, of the West Midlands, since he fell into the water on the afternoon of Sunday, 7 August, after apparently becoming cut off by the tide with another man.

Both Cardigan lifeboats, which had been taking part in the station’s open day, were immediately diverted to the choppy seas off Mwnt and were said to have arrived on the scene within minutes.

Yet despite an extensive search which also involved coastguard teams and a rescue helicopter, Mr Morton could not be found although shoreline searches continued for the next few days.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said today: “Dyfed-Powys Police and partners are continuing with periodic checks of the coastal area around Mwnt.

“The 23-year-old man from the West Midlands, named as Luke Morton, who was swept into the sea on Sunday, 7 August, remains missing.”
