Aberystwyth artist Karen Pearce has launched her latest exhibition in her hometown.
Bright Pool at Aberystwyth Arts Centre is a collection of paintings, prints and drawings that reflect Karen’s process and approach to landscape painting over the last couple of years.
The main focus in this exhibition is on plein air studies (outdoor painting) and studio paintings of riversides and coastlines, primarily in Ceredigion.
“My inspiration comes from being in a place where the colour and light are stimulating - whether that’s a wide view across the bay or an intimate encounter with a bright pool of water,” Karen explained.
“I explore aspects of composition, structure and abstraction and am interested in the expressive possibilities of colour.
“I often experiment with ways of applying the paint, sometimes dissolving the firmer depiction of forms to suggest an experience of being there.”
Bright Pool runs until 14 November in Gallery 2.
