Cadets from Tywyn had the honour of meeting D-Day veterans on a trip down to London.
After visiting Horseguards Parade to see the Major General’s Review of Trooping the Colour, Tywyn Detachment army cadets went to the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Sergeant Instructor Louise Hughes, said: “We had the immense honour of meeting two of the last surviving soldiers who took part in the D-Day Landings 75 years ago. They were 97 and 95 years old and still with a remarkable zest for life. I was overcome with emotion meeting the two old gentlemen. My grandad fought in the battles of Ypres and the Somme but never spoke about it. It’s more important than ever, now that the numbers of D-Day veterans are dwindling, that our young people are aware of the price paid by so many for the freedom we take for granted.”
