Madam,
Sadly, the Cambrian News no longer employs an astrologer but, perhaps in the case of planning applications, this is no longer necessary.
As you predicted in your editions of 12 April, the council’s development control committee did indeed vote to refer further decisions on the new Plas Morolwg scheme to planning officers - and the developer, Wales and West Housing Association.
This, however, was despite the fact that, as Aberystwyth Ward councillor Endaf Edwards (Plaid Cymru) pointed out, the scheme clearly contravened Planning Policy on Landscape criteria (DM17).
Can the oracles in Ceredigion Council Planning Department now say how they hope to accommodate such an outsized and discordant structure in the midst of these designated historic landscapes? (Note: there is nothing in the outline planning permission that requires this development to be the same height as the old three to four-storey Plas Morolwg - or even half as ugly.)
Yours etc,
R A Jones, Trefechan, Aberystwyth.
