Madam,

The recent report in the Cambrian News by Antony Gedge telling of the leader of Ceredigion County Council’s letter to the North Ceredigion Forum For Elderly Care - where she says that "she is pleased to report that Bodlondeb has now been sold subject to contract and that we are pleased that the potential buyer will be able to provide the dementia nursing care that we were hoping for" - was received by Ceredigion residents with relief.

A private purchaser will, as a new licence-holder, have to conform to the new legislation of 1 October 2018 on new room sizes etc, with all the refurbishment also required for compliance (which would not have applied to Ceredigion County Council as an existing licencee), plus the unbelievable near £5m refurbishment costs re removal of asbestos, decoration etc, quoted by Ceredigion County Council officials at the Save Bodlondeb meetings to the packed halls of residents meetings as their reason for having to close Bodlondeb.

It does beg the question as to how the potential new owner/s can afford to take on Bodlondeb as a private enterprise for profit.

They also have the cost of the purchase price.

Residents wish to be assured that there will be legal restrictions as to any disposal of Bodlondeb by the new owner/s written into the purchase contract, to protect the interest of residents.

Yours etc, Pat Bates, Maes-Maelor, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
