Madam,

Can I, through your letters page, thank the people of Aberystwyth for turning out in huge numbers for this Remembrance Sunday despite the weather forecast?

The inclement weather stayed away, which saw us having one of the largest parades and Act of Remembrance in living memory, which was a testament to the good people of Aberystwyth wanting to show their desire to remember those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure we can enjoy the freedoms we do today.

I would also like to pay tribute to a number of people/groups who helped make this centenary commemoration the success it was: The rector and staff at St Michael’s Church, Dr Sian Nicholas and the Aberystwyth at War project, Imogen Davies and Lewis Drakeley (head girl and boy, Penglais), Beca Williams and Caredig ap Tomos (head girl and boy, Penweddig), the staff at both these schools who were so helpful, the choir of Plascrug school under the outstanding direction of Greg Vearey-Roberts, the Aberystwyth Town Band and Heather Phillips for her impeccable playing of the Last Post and Reveille, Aberystwyth Town Council, the uniformed services and cadet associations, including the police, the staff at Ceredigion County Council, and finally my colleagues at Aberystwyth RBL who all helped put this together.

Diolch yn fawr. Thank you all so much.

Yours etc,

Paul Hinge, Aberystwyth RBL Remembrance Day Co-ordinator and Parade Marshall.
