Madam,
I was interested to read an item about dogs being banned from Aberaeron’s South Beach. Local councillor Rhodri Jones was quoted regarding “non-existent” signage: he said he had pointed out to people it was a prohibited area but accepted that the dog owners are hardly to blame if there are no signs.
I’m not a local, so maybe I have less right to comment. I’m also a dog owner, so I’m certainly biased. But I have holidayed in Aberaeron for a few years and I love the area. I agree that irresponsible dog owners are a problem everywhere.
Having said that, I feel I have to point out that there are in fact signs at South Beach, both on the side of the shelter on the car park and on a post at the coastal path by the public toilets. These signs do not mention any prohibition on dogs. The only other sign in the area is the notice regarding the bylaw banning removal of pebbles from the beach.
So is there actually a prohibition if the only public notices in the area don’t mention it? I hope the town council reconsiders this.
Yours etc, Steven Mounfield, Stoke-on-Trent.
