AT LEAST one driver has been hospitalised following a series of car crashes in and around Dolgellau over the last week.

Icy conditions and poor nightime visibility around the Meirionnydd town may be responsible for the smashes which have all taken place in the last few days.

On Friday night, a soft top BMW alledgedly hit ice and span off the road at the Cross Foxes junction (A470/A487).

After careering off the slick road, the car overturned and finished up resting on its roof in a ditch adjacent to the road.

It is not clear whether the driver was injured as the incident was not reported to North Wales Police or the Welsh Ambulance Service.

Over the weekend Cader Idris saw its first coating of snow and ice making the nearby roads more treacherous for vehicles.

Prior to that, last Wednesday saw two cars collide on the Dolgellau bypass at approximately 5pm with one driver conveyed to Bronglais Hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The accident occurred in Llanelltyd near the Store House.

Speaking about the crash, a spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service stated: “We were called at 5.08pm on Wednesday 18 November to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A470 near Dolgellau.

“We sent an emergency ambulance to the scene, and a man was taken to Bronglais General Hospital.

“A second patient was treated and discharged at scene.”

Additionally last Tuesday a blue Suzuki Swift collided with a tanker causing some damage to the front of the car.

The smash occurred on the A487 as the vehicles headed towards the Cross Foxes Junction where the convertible BMW was to skid off the road two days later.
