Madam,
So Joyce Porter (Letters, last week) feels that R N Phillips, your previous correspondent, needs to ‘get real’ when he has criticised appointment delays at the North Road Clinic, in Aberystwyth, in respect of his eyesight problems.
This reminds me so much of my late mother who, when hearing anyone complaining about their problems, used to take pleasure in reminding them that ‘there’s always someone worse off than you’. With respect to my mother and Ms Porter, this ‘getting real’ and any other platitudes are of little darn use to someone whose failing vision makes their life a possible misery or leaves them facing the possibility of losing their sight!
To the best of my recollection, I don’t recall Mr Phillips criticising any treatment he may have received and I’m sure that he, like most of us, appreciate the pressure on the NHS but, if we are all happy to sit back and be quietly patient whilst possibly going blind, then nothing will ever improve. It is our right and duty to voice our complaints in the hope we might be heard and matters might improve.
Yours etc,
Barrie Lynn, Trisant.
