Madam,

I would like to give my support to the pupils in Aberystwyth and around the UK who went “on strike” on Friday, 15 February.

This is a global campaign inspired by Greta Thunberg (who turned 16 on 3 January this year). She says "we cannot solve the crisis without treating it as a crisis” and has been striking in Sweden.

Wales is thinking ahead and leading the way with the Future Generations Act where it is a legal requirement to consider what will happen to future generations in any decision made.

As a coastal town it is urgently important for us to consider the impacts of how the sea level will rise in the next 100 to 200 years and make changes urgently over the next 12 years as advised by the report from the Inter Governmental Panel on Climate Change.

I am standing as an independent candidate for the Aberystwyth North Ward election (Thursday, 7 March). My main aim is to up the action on taking climate change seriously as well as all other environmental activities - plastics, pollution, electric vehicles, bikes etc, to ensure Aber continues as a good place to live with a friendly and healthy community.

Yours etc, CJ Peasley, Independent Candidate, North Ward, Aberystwyth.
