Your various reports (12 May), on the results of the Senedd election for Dwyfor Meirionydd including a good measure of self-congratulation by the Tory and Plaid candidates, fail to tell the story of the remarkable result achieved by the Welsh Labour candidate, Cian Ireland.

The results speak for themselves. Plaid managed to increase their share of the vote by one per cent, the Tories by 2.9 per cent but Cian Ireland increased the Welsh Labour share of the vote by 3.4 per cent, an impressive result by any standard.

The Welsh Labour Government under Mark Drakeford has shepherded the country through this pandemic and now promises to tackle poverty here with a Universal Basic Income. Cian has proved their perfect advocate here in Dwyfor Meirionnydd.
