A MEIRIONNYDD swimming pool has been forced to close after an inspection found a problem with the pool lining.
Byw’n Iach, who run Bro Ffestiniog swimming pool announced this week that all swimming lessons have had to be cancelled after a problem was discovered in the pool lining.
Tests are currently being carried out to identify the cause of the problem and to fix it.
In a statement, Byw’n Iach Gwynedd Healthy Lifestyles said: “During inspections of the pool, prior to reopening after the Christmas break, our staff identified a problem with the pool lining that requires specialist investigation.
“We are working closely with Gwynedd Council Property Department to commission tests via an appropriate external company.
“We hope that the tests will identify the cause and the steps that will be required to remedy the fault.
“We understand that this will be very frustrating news for regular users of the facility, especially in light of the prolonged pool closure last year.
“Our primary concern, is to ensure the safety of users of the pool.
“As there is a high level of uncertainty regarding timescales at present, we have taken the decision to cancel all swimming lessons for the week 4-7 January 2022.
“For the coming weeks, our mangers will be reviewing progress on a weekly basis (Friday mornings) and update swimming lesson customers for the week ahead.
“We will also review regular direct debit payments ahead of the February 2022 payment date, and make any necessary adjustments regarding freezing or refunding fees at that time.
“We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience caused and we will endeavour to resolve the situation so that we can re-open at the earliest possible opportunity.”
Those wishing to continue swimming whilst the pool in Blaenau Ffestiniog is closed for repair work, are advised to head to Glaslyn Swimming Pool in Porthmadog for the near future, if they are able to travel.
Byw’n Iach is a company set up by Gwynedd Council in 2019 to manage the county’s 12 swimming pools.
