AN “INSPIRATIONAL” Dolgellau woman is celebrating her 100th birthday this month.
Anne Jones, who continues to volunteer tirelessly to this day, has lived in Meirionnydd since 1942 and has devoted her time to a number of charitable organisations.
The centenarian was born on 10 January and celebrated her monumental birthday in The Ship Hotel in a low-key event in Dolgellau with her immediate family.
Alongside “very nice” cards from the Queen, first minister Carwyn Jones and cabinet member Iain Duncan Smith, Anne received gifts and cards from nearly 80 people - a testament to her popularity in the area,
Throughout her life, generous Anne worked as an occupational therapist whilst simultaneously helping to run the Dolgellau Hospital League of Friends and volunteering for the Red Cross.
She has more than 50 years experience with the Red Cross and is still a key player for the League of Friends.
Anne was married for many years to sergeant Osmond Jones who was a police officer in Dolgellau, the duo were well known throughout the community.
So has Meirionnydd changed much in her 100 years?
“Yes of course, everything changes everywhere and all the time,” she told the Cambrian News.
“Nothing stands still.
“Some things constantly evolve though - the League of Friends for example, I’ve been involved with them since 1958.
“I’m proud to help serve my community.”
On her birthday Anne was also visited by Dolgellau’s Gwynedd councillors Cllr Linda Morgan and Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn who brought her some flowers.
Cllr Morgan is delighted to honour Anne’s centennial birthday.
“Anne is a very inspirational and special lady, “she said.
“Dolgellau League of Friends certainly wouldn’t what it is today without her, we’re all very grateful for her years of dedicated service.
“We all wish her the very best on this special day.”
