TRIUMPHANT Tywyn travellers have returned from their adventure after successfully negotiating more than 2,800 kilometres of gruelling north Indian terrain using only a two-stroke rickshaw.

Engaged couple Dave Davies and Cat Sheldrake have recently returned from the Asian sub-continent with their London friend David Gammon, after tackling a 1,770-mile road trip across some of the world’s most unpredictable roads in a famously unreliable form of transport.

A rickshaw is a tiny, three-wheeled vehicle which often produces less than seven horsepower — less than most ride-on lawnmowers.

The intrepid trio were taking part in a Rickshaw Run — described by the organisers as ‘easily the least sensible thing to do with two weeks’ — to raise money for charity.

Half of the teams’ donations will go towards Cool Earth, a charity which works alongside indigenous communities to protect endangered rainforest, whilst the other half will go to the Dalit Freedom Network, an organisation established to battle human trafficking in India.

Dave was exhilarated after completing the bizarre challenge.

Speaking to the Cambrian News soon after finishing his gruelling trek, he said: “We made it to the end of the line! It was awesome, but I’m glad to have hit the finish."
