Concerning the spread of the coronavirus in Wales and not just the loss of lives, but the loss of mental health, livelihoods, homes, and relationships, it’s about time we took control of our local situations, and not just leave it to the politicians.
While the majority of us ‘did the right thing’ throughout the first lockdown, there was a very small minority within our communities who were having barbecues, and gatherings. Too many of us did nothing, and let them get on with it. Youngsters, in fact, acted impeccably for most of the first lockdown. They just reacted to the hypocrisy of a number of their elders and the likes of the holidayhomers flocking into Wales all through the lockdown, and of course Dominic Cummings.
Many people seem to be tired of the restrictions and lockdowns, and we’d all like them to come to an end. But the virus cannot spread itself, and there is no point only blaming our politicians in Cardiff for their decisions. We are spreading it. Yet more and more are freely moving around. So it’s time to re-focus ourselves, to do the best we can to stop the spread, and that involves limited contact and limited movement by our own choices, etc., and not relying on the governments’ decrees telling us so.
I’ve never been a fan of ‘snitching’, especially to the police, but if we want to enjoy some elements of freedom and happiness in the foreseeable future, then we have to report incidents to the police. Your reporting them to the police is confidential. Let the police deal with them. It will only take a few arrests with hefty fines in each area and they will think twice. But do it for all those tired hospital staff; the care workers and emergency services staff. Do it for the young, the old, the lonely, the school kids, the businesses, and for ourselves.
As for students wanting to return at Christmas, then it must be a ‘self-isolate, test, quarantine, and test again’ before and after returning home.
If we want a Christmas at all this year, then we must reenergise ourselves, our families, friends and neighbours. There is no point whingeing, fretting, or getting angry about the situation.
