CARDIGAN Swimming Pool trustees have sent out an SOS to local residents to help them win the final of a national competition which would guarantee funding essential to its future.

The cash-strapped facility – where generations of Cardis have learnt to swim for almost 40 years - is a finalist in the M&S Energy Fund competition and needs as many votes as possible to win £12,500 needed to install solar PV and slash running costs.

“The deadline for votes is 9am on Monday, 10 October,” trustee Sharon Griffiths told the Cambrian News. “Basically, we’re calling on as many people as possible to cast a vote for us.

“Winning that money to install solar PV is essential – quite simply we have got to win.”

Fellow trustee Lynne Fischer said: “I’ve been involved with swimming for years and years and feel very strongly that this is something worth fighting for.

“We all realise we have to get our running costs down.”

Trustees say Cardigan Pool is more than just a pool and over the past four decades has become a hub of community life.
