AN ABERAERON woman has set her sights on running this year’s London and Dublin Marathons in memory of her beloved ‘Dadcu’ who died from pancreatic cancer two years ago.

Kate Lewis, 24, has been granted a charity place with Pancreatic Cancer UK for both events – the London Marathon takes place next month and the Dublin Marathon will be held in the autumn.

She hopes to raise over £1,500 in memory of Alun Lewis, a keen sportsman himself, who particularly enjoyed football, pool and snooker.

“This will be my second full marathon,” Kate told the Cambrian News. “I ran the London Marathon for Kidney Research UK in memory of my late grandfather, John Bowen, in 2010.

“Having completed my degree last year, I have taken up running again. I decided I needed to embark on another challenge, so I thought what better way?

“Pancreatic Cancer UK is a cause very close to us as a family - every day in the UK 24 families are given the news that someone they love has been diagnosed with the disease."Donations can be made to Pancreatic Cancer UK via Kate’s JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/Kate-Lewis21
