Knitting ladies of Lampeter have banded together to help those less fortunate than themselves cope with the chill of winter.
Based in St Thomas’ Methodist Church and under the inspirational leadership of Diana Williams, they have members from the church coffee morning and many local support groups, including carers, Llys Pedr and the Macular Society, plus the leisure centre and Lampeter Walkers.
Ladies of all abilities are busy producing knitted six-inch squares in the most amazing colours and patterns which are then crocheted together to make blankets like the one seen here.
Each blanket is named after someone who has knitted some of the squares, donated wool or given a contribution towards the materials.
Diana says that people of all skill levels can contribute and that they are so delighted when they spot one of their squares in the finished item.
The blankets are supplied to the Salvation Army in Carmarthen and to date they have produced 22 - that’s 770 squares!
Anyone who would like to join this team of happy knitters can contact Diana at Lampeter Methodist Church during the weekly Tuesday morning coffee sessions.
The six-inch squares should be double knitting with 40 stitches on size eight needles for 47 rows. Crotchet four trebles and go round square a total of six inches.
There is a guide leaflet available to help.
