Further to previous correspondence regarding a new ramp for Fairbourne beach, I would like to express my views on this.

As someone who has survived a stroke and is sight impaired, it is just beyond me to understand how Gwynedd Council think it is acceptable to leave us without the ramp. It is necessary to encourage people back to Gwynedd after the pandemic to save our beleaguered businesses but every year we have seen people with disabilities and mums with babies struggling to get down the beach on the stones. They either give up or half the family go on the beach and the others have to stay on the top. I haven’t been on our beach since my stroke in 2014 and so I am familiar with this. This to me is prejudice.

Fairbourne amenities trust has worked hard to keep the public toilets open, relying on donations and grants because Gwynedd Council shut them. No toilets, tourists will not stop, they will drive past. Then the amenities trust started to raise money for a new ramp. A lot of work went into talking to the experts, finding the right materials and the safest plans. People who have holidayed locally are eager to make donations to the building of a ramp. Still the council have said no.

The heavy machinery damaged our ramp, not the storms, they just kept eroding the already damaged concrete.

God forbid but one day there will be a serious incident on the beach and the emergency services will not be able to access the beach and the blame will fall on Gwynedd Council!
