HUW Davies, a lamb farmer from Llanddewi Brefi, near Tregaron, has won a national award at the Co-op’s inaugural Farming Conference which took place in Manchester.

Huw, of Aberdauddwr farm, who is an active member of the Cambrian Lamb Group and farms across 1,260 acres with 1,200 Welsh breeding ewes and 50 Mule/Texel crosses was crowned Lamb Farmer of the Year 2016 for his outstanding contribution to the industry.

His trophy was collected by Alison Harvey of Dunbia and was presented by Chris Boardman MBE and Ciara Gorst, the Co-op’s senior agricultural manager.

Mrs Gorst said: “We’re delighted to call Huw our Lamb Farmer of the Year. His ethos, to improve farming efficiency while keeping traditional methods alive, is one that should be celebrated.

“Huw and his family also work tirelessly to protect the farm’s natural surroundings for future generations and this should also be commended.”

Last month, the Co-op extended its commitment to back UK farmers by announcing that it will switch all of its fresh bacon to 100 per cent British from May 2017.
