Ramblers
A DRY day was welcome for the walk on Saturday, 16 January, starting from Carmarthen Museum in Abergwili. Led by Medi Hughes, the eight-mile route fol-lowed up to Cwm Oernant reservoirs and open fields with views over the Towy and Gwili valleys, before dropping down again to Tanerdy. The route made good use of the area’s foot-paths, keeping ramblers away from the busy link roads into Carmarthen town to head up the Gwili valley to Dolgwili. From Dolgwili, the group headed towards the highlight of the walk, Bryn Myrddin or Merlin’s Hill which involves a steep short climb through woodland to the Iron Age site. On a good day, the views from this location are particularly rewarding, although a river mist obscured many of the landmarks on our walk. However, in compensation, the swirling mists added to the mystery and magic of the legen-dary hill top where Merlin slumbers, peacefully on it seems, in his hidden cave.Ground conditions permitting, the next walk will be off-track in the Teifi Pools area.
