Ramblers

THE TEIFI Pools Trail from Tynycwm near Strata Florida following up along Nant Egnant to Llyn Egnant and Llyn Teifi is a lovely and popular route. With careful navigation there are other off-track routes to be discovered that will lead walkers to the heart of the otherwise overlooked lakes that collectively form the Teifi Pools. On Saturday, 30 January, the ramblers enjoyed such an adventure ably led by James Williams, by following an unmarked track leading in a south easterly direction.Eventually, after about a mile or so, the track dwindles to sheep tracks which provide a pathway to join a lesser used bridleway crossing Nant Hafod-frith. With a bit of luck and a keen eye, the outline of the ancient hafod dwelling can be spotted near the stream amongst the crags and rocks.By following a compass bearing or with a good sense of direction an accessible route can be found to Llyn Bach where Llyn Gorlan can be viewed a short distance to the west. On a good day, it is well worth continuing toward Llyn Hir but the ramble was accompanied by a strong cold wind and heavy rainfall had caused, in places, trying wet conditions underfoot so the decision was taken to cut off a corner and head directly to the southerly tip of Llyn Teifi. Here, the route joined the waymarked Teifi Pools Trail but however, the adventure had not ended as the infant Afon Teifi was in full spate and spilling over its banks. There was much hopping and jumping until they arrived at Frongoch and the last mile stretch back to Tynycwm. The adventure walk was especially enjoyed by the youngest walker, eight-year-old Dylan Bugajska-Davies, on holiday from London. The group is welcoming all to join for future walks and hikes.
