Machynlleth’s lantern parade will return to the town this year on 2 November.
The popular parade was not held in 2017, with organisers agreeing that it should take a break, but it will return during the upcoming half-term period, along with a special workshop and a spectacular firework display to end the evening, which has the theme of Natural and Wild.
Organisers have made a minor change to the route. The parade will now start at 6.30pm at the Plas gates on Maengwyn Street, instead of at the junction of Forge Road.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “This is to ensure we fall within acceptable road delay times, to reduce the number of road management stewards needed, combat a few minor complaints about the entrance to Co-op car park being closed during the procession and to create a safer mustering point for lantern bearers.
“The rest of the route is unchanged and will head down the street, past many of the cafes, pubs and shops which stay open to enjoy and support the event.
“The grand finale is on the football field and is the best fireworks show in mid Wales. Watch out for something special this year.”
Tickets for the firework display are £6 for adults and £3 for children, with the lantern parade and display paid for by firework display and workshop ticket sales, as well as donations.
A special workshop will be held at the RSPB reserve at Ynyshir on Wednesday, 31 October.
Anybody who would like to volunteer to help the lantern parade can do so by emailing [email protected] and organisers say that any offers of donations would be welcomed.
