Madam,
There appears, once again, to be a concerning interest in Borth Community Council’s proposal to lease the Community Boat Park to the proposer of a Borth Sailing School.
The community council proposal to lease this community facility is unexplainable in view of the proposed low lease value and any terms which would allow or deny access to the existing users. Should such a lease be granted by the community council committee? Although the council did announce the proposed offer and allow any other interested potential leasees the opportunity to present a proposal, it is inadequate for the council not to publish the proposed terms of any lease to the community prior to its implementation.
This would be a minimum requirement as the boat park belongs to the community and the council committee are the guardians of this facility and should be open and direct about their proposals to the community and its benefits in detail prior to taking the use of this facility from the community.
The matter of detailed clarification of any lease proposals was raised in my letter to the Cambrian News on 4 April this year, an adequate amount of time to ask the community and especially the current and regular users of the boat park their views on the proposals which could result in the facility not being available to the community at large.
In addition, if the proposed Borth Sailing School never materialises and the lease is granted then the boat park could be a source of private income through uncontrolled rent for individual boat owners.
Would it not be more beneficial for the council to rent an adequate but restricted parking area to this proposed commercial enterprise?
It should be restricted to an area which would still allow the community members who have boats to access this community owned facility. If set out properly it would provide parking for around 30 boats of a similar size to the ones currently occupying the park.
Yours etc, Phil Turner-Wright, Dol-y-bont.
