A PENRHYNCOCH man will walk 177 miles in one week in a bid to raise £2,500 for a cancer charity after losing his dad to the disease last month.

Lee Roberts, 28, will take on the Offa’s Dyke Path through Wales in early August to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lee’s father William John Roberts, known to family and friends as Taff, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic, liver and bowel cancer in November last year.

Sadly, he lost his battle to cancer only 10 weeks later, passing away peacefully on 2 February at Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

Lee said the diagnosis was a “massive shock”.

“Ten weeks later he lost his short but brave battle,” he said.

“This is the reality of cancer, and sadly most of us have been affected or will be in the future.”

Only a few days after his father passed away, Lee, who works as a butcher in Morrisons in Aberystwyth, decided he wanted to raise money for Macmillan to thank them for all of the help and support throughout his dad’s illness.

Lee, a father of three to 13-year-old Louis, Mikaela, seven, and five-year-old Theo, will be joined on the walk by his partner Natalie Reading, 31, and friends Ciaran O’Donovan of Bow Street and Deian Thomas of Penrhyncoch.

The quartet will camp out each night of the seven days as they attempt to complete the seven day challenge.
