Editor,
I’m responding to Dave Bradney’s letter published on 14 November.
Mr Bradney makes the point that a “particular group of people can prevent a democratic decision they don’t like from being implemented”.
I suppose he’s referring to people wanting a final say, a second vote, on this Brexit shambles. He appears to say they have no right to do so.
Personally, if I’d been sold goods I found were not what I paid for, I’d want a refund.
The reason many want a second vote on Brexit is because they feel they were lied to, in a very big way, and a decision based on lies tends not to be very sound.
Were people fully aware of what they were voting for in 2016? Did they get properly informed of the consequences of their vote for them and their families?
Did people get told the truth by Vote Leave?
Did Vote Leave not get found to have broken electoral law?
Are people confident that European Regional Funds will be replaced in equal measures by funding from Westminster?
And that Red Bus! Let’s mention the NHS Red Bus, has it found a ditch to hide itself in yet?
Seriously though, let’s get a proper democratic vote, which means a vote based on correct information, well explained and understood by voters.
That’s what a grown-up democracy means.
People should be able to make an informed decision, and change their minds once they have been correctly and fully informed.
I will vote to protect our NHS, our schools, and all our public services from the disaster awaiting if Brexit happens.
This General Election is not an ordinary election.
I would urge all democrats to vote, and to get properly informed.
Marie Thomas, Aberystwyth.
