HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised towards a new Barmouth lifeboat in memory of an RNLI volunteer who would have celebrated his 30th birthday last Saturday.

Craig Steadman, a lifeboatman for Holyhead RNLI, lost his life in a motorcycle accident on the A55 near Llanfairpwll in August 2015.

A fund was set up in his name for a new inshore lifeboat for Barmouth RNLI, where Craig spent several summers.

So far, thousands of pounds has been raised in Craig’s memory and, last Saturday, 31 people gathered to take part in the Craig Steadman Walk, a gruelling 22-mile walk from Bronaber to Barmouth Lifeboat Station in inclement weather.

The walk was organised by Craig’s step-mother Sue Hall and her friend Rachel Jones and has so far raised more than £1,000 for the lifeboat fund.

Craig’s father Ray said: “A great big thank you to everyone, I cannot say enough for all your kindness."
