St Padarn’s
ON MONDAY, 9 November, choirmaster and organist, Darryl Walters, was licensed by Bishop Wyn to serve as a reader in the group. The licensing service was held at the Chapel of Llys Esgob in Abergwili. Darryl previously served as a licensed reader in the Diocese of Monmouth before moving, with his wife Jacqueline, to live in this Diocese. Darryl now joins the other two readers in the group, Keith Jones and Carola Mercer, to work as part of the ministry team under the direction of the priest in charge, Rev Andrew Loat.On Tuesday, 10 November, a small but very diverse audience, gathered in church for the first of two pre-Christmas organ recitals given by Darryl. They were rewarded with a wonderful treat, enjoying a very varied programme, including Fantasia and Fugue by J S Bach, Organ Variations by G F Handel, Voluntary by 18th century organ composer William Walond and other works , concluding with J S Bach’s ever-popular Tocatta and Fugue in D minor. Lovers of organ music should mark 1pm on Tuesday, 8 December, firmly in their diaries and come and enjoy the second of Darryl’s pre-Christmas recitals.The church’s year is drawing rapidly to its close and next Sunday, 22 November, is the Sunday next before Advent. Services will be held at: 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 red book setting; 10am, Cymun Bendigaid; and 11.15am, Sung Eucharist. The following Sunday, 29 November, is Advent Sunday and marks the start of the new church year. There will only be two services in St Padarn’s in Advent Sunday and these will be at 8am, Holy Communion using the 1984 red book setting; and at 4pm, Gwasanaeth Emynau a Darlleniadau’r Adfent/Service of Advent Hymns and Readings, led by the church choir and directed by Darryl.There will be no 10am Welsh and no 11.15am English services on Advent Sunday.
