Noah’s Ark Appeal

THE LLANIDLOES committee of the Noah’s Ark Appeal announced the winners of the Christmas raffle, drawn on Saturday, 12 December at the Red Lion.They were as follows: 1, Carol Pugh, Llanidloes; 2, Julie Jones, Caersws; 3, Hafan, Carno Club; 4, Sarah Rees, Llanidloes; 5, Martin Owen, Llanidloes; 6, C Thomas, Abermule; 7, Margaret, Llanidloes; 8, Rachael, Newtown; 9, Alan Humphries, Carno; 10, D Morgan, Llawr y Glyn.The committee said it would like to thank everyone who supported the appeal, also the ticket sellers for their help and all who donated prizes.

Bra bank

LLANIDLOES Inner Wheel is asking for support from ladies in the form of bras to fight breast cancer. They are asking for your old wearable bras in a bra amnesty to raise money and also provide bras where there is a short supply. The bra bank is in the pharmacy and from there unwanted bras will go to Africa.Against Breast Cancer will also receive a don ation based on the weight of bras collected.

SoundBites

THE LAST SoundBites event took place in the Great Oak Café on Saturday, 14 November. It was a great night of music and of fantastic food provided by the café’s new proprietor, Angharad James. It starred Will Killeen, with support acts from Sinead Hegarty and Y Trefnydd a Chwmni. SoundBites is ending as the main organiser Andy Warren wants to have a break after seven years, but he is happy to assist anybody else in taking it forward. Andy said he would like to thank Glenn Ashbrooke, Jean Pegg, and Gerry Collins (the previous proprietor of the Great Oak Café) and all the other people who have helped make it a success over the last seven years.He also thanked the Wales Art Council and Compton’s Yard Charitable Trust who were both integral to the event with their support and funding.

Community centre

THE AGM for the controlling charity for the community centre will be held on Sunday, 10 January, at 6pm.Anyone concerned with the future of the centre is welcome to attend.

High school

CHRISTMAS came early to Llanidloes High School when every junior member of Llanidloes RFC was presented with their very own personalised “Wolfpack” rugby ball as a present from the club. The junior section also raised £1,100 last year through a sponsored walk up Snowdon. The money was raised to fund new off-field kit for each walker, who received a Wolfpack T-shirt and hoody.

Art display

THERE is an art display at the Great Oak Café. Larisa Phillips has an exhibition of meditative flower paintings in a variety of mediums in different sizes. The artwork is available to see at café opening hours, free of charge.
