Rotary Club

THE annual giant Easter Egg raffle raised an outstanding £1,612 for a variety of charities and good causes.The club donated 10 giant eggs to local proprietors who in turn raffled them for their chosen charity.The club invited everyone involved in the raffle, along with representatives from charities such as the Wales Air Ambulance and the MS Society to the Red Lion in Llanidloes for a presentation evening.The club has apologised for not being able to conduct their easy application stall for the Across Wales Walk due to bad weather, but can confirm (weather permitting) that they will be present at this week’s market advising and helping with application forms for any enthusiastic walkers.

Heart of Wales 7’s

AT CAE Hafren, Llanidloes Rugby Grounds, on Saturday, 2 July, free entry to events from 10am and music from 4pm till late. Rugby, netball, tug of war, kid’s area, free camping. The music festival features Catch 22, Red Lion Cage, Kids Rock, Dan Gilydd and DJ sets.

Market

FREE stalls are available for any local charities or groups who want to raise money for their cause. The free-of-charge stall is limited to one a week so book in advance to be allocated a stall for that week. Bookshop

THE bookshop will be closing on 30 April. It will be open 10am-1pm each weekday until then, with books on sale at 50p each and cards at 20p each.Thanks have been given to all the volunteers and customers who have supported the shop for the last 30 years.Coffee morningLLANIDLOES Refugee Support is holding a coffee morning on Saturday, 16 April, from 10am to 12pm at Chatwood, Longbridge Street. Proceeds to Human Relief Foundation.

Queen’s 90th birthday

Arwystli Society

ST IDLOES Church Hall was full to capacity with members and guests on 23 March to hear Jeremy Pryce and view his unique collection of postcards and photographs of the locality depicting historic market hall celebrations, sporting events, fetes and carnivals showing buildings long demolished. It was truly nostalgic and entertaining for all present, prompting many stories and memories of well loved characters and it is hoped Jeremy will show more images at a future meeting, and he was thanked by all. The next meeting will feature a lecture by Dr David Stephenson called Problems and Prospects on 20 April at St Idloes Church Hall at 7.30pm.

Tabletop sale

THERE will be a two-day bonanza tabletop sale to raise funds for the Amani Village of Hope for orphaned children in Kenya on Saturday, 30 April and Monday, 2 May. The event will be held at Chatwood, Long-bridge Street. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and treats whilst browsing, shopping and socialising. Doors open 10am. All welcome.

Noah’s Ark

THE Noah’s Ark Appeal, collecting money for the Children’s Hospital in Wales, is set for the yearly sponsored walk from Llanidloes to Llandinam on Saturday, 21 May. Sponsor forms are available from Woosnam and Davies Newsagents or from Les Jones, 01686 413152. Register at 8.30am on the day at the Gro Car Park and pick up a free bottle of water.

Gardening Club

MEMBERS heard an interesting talk on growing and using medicinal herbs by Helen Porter.The club held its Easter spring flower show on Easter Saturday and, in spite of a slow spring and appalling weather on the day, some colourful flowers decorated the venue at The Elephant Inn.Members provided plants for sale and a good selection of cakes and produce, and local children competed in a decorated egg competition and there were some amusing entries from the St John’s Badgers, made up as Mr Bump from the Mr Men, bandages included.Total funds raised were just over £200 and the club would like to thank members who contributed to the day and for the generosity of the public for the outcome.At the next meeting on 26 April, the club will be hosting Glyn Morgan, local show judge, who will give a talk on preparation for show vegetables and fruit. The evening starts at 7.30pm in The Elephant Inn, Long Bridge Street Free tea/coffee, visitors welcome for a fee of £3, annual membership £5.
