AT THE latter end of the Llanilar FUGS – Falcon Useless Golf Society – travelled to Arklow, to compete for the Celtic Challenge Golf Trophy and the internal CDW Autos Cup.The weather was kind, and the first day’s competition was held at Enniscorthy Golf Club. The result of the stableford competition was: 1, Paul ‘Bud’ Haggett; 2, Dylan Morris; 3, Barry Phipson.

The second day took the golfers to the scenic Courtown Golf Club, where Bud once again reigned supreme. Second was Rowland Salmon and third was Dylan Morris.

On the third day, the match against the Bridge Golf Society was played at Arklow Bay Golf Club, with the FUGS bidding to retain the Celtic Challenge Trophy which it had held for a number of years.

This year, however, the Bridge Golf Society claimed a victory by 464 to 432 points.The best Welsh golfer, Paul ‘Bud’ Haggett, received a trophy from Bridge captain Paul Hoyey.

And after the three days of competition, Bud was also declared the most consistent FUGS golfer and was awarded the CDW Autos Cup.
