A branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign was launched at an event at Arad Goch in Aberystwyth.
Local peace and justice choir Côr Gobaith sang the group into being with a moving selection of songs that featured the suffering and resolve of the Palestinian people.
Following the choir, Betty Hunter, honorary president of PSC, made an informative presentation about the plight of children who find themselves on the frontline of Israeli military actions in Palestine.
The presentation drew on Betty’s personal experiences of visiting the region.
The launch concluded with the inaugural AGM of the Ceredigion branch of PSC.
“It was a packed meeting with over 30 people in attendance,” said one of the organisers, Ian Bell.
“We were delighted with the turnout and response of local supporters. A constitution incorporating the aims of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign was adopted and officers elected, successfully launching the Ceredigion branch.
“Given the historical context of Britain’s involvement, I think we have a particular responsibility to show solidarity. There can be no peace in the region without justice for the Palestinian people.”
A campaigner for many years, Betty said: “The Palestine Solidarity Campaign works for peace, equality and justice, and against racism, occupation and colonisation.
“We are dedicated to securing human rights for Palestinians. Israel holds the Palestinian people hostage in their own land, and world leaders do nothing. We must boycott Israeli goods. We must call for sanctions against Israel.
“It is us, the people, who can change history.”
