RUNNERS will sweat it out this weekend to support a father-of-four with a debilitating condition.
Steffan Owen, 39, has been confined to hospital for weeks as he battles a brain tumour and leukaemia, a condition he was diagnosed with earlier this year.
Now his friends at Meirionnydd Running Club are organising an event at Coed y Brenin on 7 July to raise funds for Steffan and they need your support.
Last year, the former care worker conducted a Dawn ‘til Dusk run through the trails at Coed y Brenin and raised over £3,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity.
Now Meirionnydd Running Club, a club which Steffan is a member of, will be conducting their own event to help support Steffan and his family through their tough time.
At present Steffan is being kept in Ysbyty Gwynedd for his treatment which means a round trip of over 100 miles for his family and friends to visit him from Dolgellau.
A spokesperson for the running club said: “Last year Steffan organised and ran the Dawn ‘til Dusk trailathon at Coed y Brenin, raising over £3,000 for Brain Tumour Charity.
“Steffan Owen, father-of-four, has been battling with a brain cancer for a year but now has been rocked by diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia.
“He is currently receiving treatment in hospital and all funds will go towards helping the family with costs of supporting Steffan.
“We are looking for as many people as possible to run or walk a one-mile loop as many times as you like between 7am and 7pm at Coed y Brenin this Saturday, 7 July.”
Steffan, who is hoping to travel to Manchester soon for a vital bone marrow transplant, is touched by the club’s act of generosity and is hopeful he may be allowed to attend on the day.
“I’m getting better by the day and hopefully going to be at the event as I might get a week at home,” said Steffan stoically.
“I think it’s brilliant what they’re doing and I felt very humble when I found out that they were doing it.
“My loved ones and I are grateful of every penny at this tough time as travelling to Bangor will soon become travelling to Manchester as I move on to the next step of my treatment.”
