RESIDENTS across Ceredigion and Powys keen to hold street parties to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday are being urged to make applications for events.
The Queen’s birthday will take place on 21 April, but events will be planned for her official birthday weekend in June with a street party on the Mall as well as a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, but authorities are urging local people to hold their own street parties.
Ceredigion Council said there will be no official celebration in the county, but said any community that wanted to hold an event could apply for street closures. However, no applications have been received so far.
A council spokesperson said: “It is has been decided to not have a county celebration due to budget cuts, and to let every community organise their own celebrations if they so wish to do so. We have not received any street closure requests to date.”
Powys Council has said it will welcome applications, but has asked that any application for a street party on a public highway must do so no later than Friday 29 April.
Anyone planning a street party can get an application form or more information from the council’s traffic section by phoning 0845 6027035 or 01597 827465 or by e-mailing [email protected].
