AN ABERYSTWYTH woman who has kept a lock of music legend David Bowie’s hair for over 30 years has decided to sell it at auction.
Wendy Farrier took the hair sample while she was working as a wig maker for Madame Tussauds in 1983 and has kept it framed in a photo which showed David Bowie with Wendy working in the background.
It will now be auctioned in Los Angeles on Saturday with an estimated sale price of over £4,000.
Wendy said she’d been allowed to take the hair sample ahead of making a wig for a model of the rock star as colleagues knew what a big fan she was.
She said: “Normally when people come in they have a hair sample taken, as they knew I was a fan they said I could take the sample. When David Bowie came in for a fitting, the sculptist took a picture and asked if I’d like to have the photo as I was in the background.
“I took about five samples and said I was going to keep one, which they thought was a bit weird.
“The lock of hair is under the frame of the picture and that’s how it’s gone off to America. I used to have it on the wall, but since I moved to Wales it’s just stayed in a box.”
