Madam,

After reading a recent Cambrian News I sighed to see Ceredigion County Council paying for another consultant’s report.

The report, which was obviously written after interviews with a few chosen people, merely repeated what they said. Making a priority of a museum ship in Pwll Cam is just nonsensical.

Eleven years ago Aberaeron celebrated 200 years of the building of the harbour. Ironically, at that time South Pier was closed as it was unsafe - despite constant representations and warnings. Eleven years on it is still closed to the public.

When that wall collapses Aberaeron loses some of its defence. A few years ago an extension to the harbour was mooted so that boats could access Aberaeron at all times. That alongside a rebuilt South Pier would, I think, make the town a more attractive and safer place.

For many people South Beach is very difficult, if not impossible, to access - installing steps would increase its use and safety.

Let’s ensure Aberaeron’s present and future by looking at its safety first, as otherwise its history will be just that.

Yours etc,

Mair Harrison, Aberaeron town councillor, Lôn y Felin, Aberaeron.
