A TREGARON woman who has run a lunch club for older people for the last 15 years has won a national charity award.

Delyth Jones, 79, began running the weekly lunch club at Y Talbot when she retired in 2001.

She has now picked up the Age Cymru Volunteer Award – sponsored by Western Power Distribution – at a glittering awards ceremony in Cardiff.

Lucy Owen hosted the Age Cymru Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony which Barchester Healthcare sponsored.

The Age Cymru Volunteer Award is given to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution in helping to create an age-friendly Wales.

Anne Marie Butlin of Age Cymru Ceredigion said: “We’re very thrilled and proud that Delyth has won this award – it couldn’t be more deserved."

Delyth said: “I’m delighted to win this award.

“[When I started] I realised how much the older people appreciated coming out during the day to the Talbot.

“They look forward to coming out because it’s the best thing that’s happened in Tregaron because they can come out during the day and be home safe at night.”
