There has been a fascinating series of ‘Luxury Trains of The World’ during lockdown. Hold that thought and couple it with the line from Shrewsbury to Pwllheli, now generally recognised as ‘one of the most scenic routes in the world’.
It sets sets your ‘thought fluids’ gushing, that if an entrepreneur invested in old Pullman coaches - or better still luxurious glass roofed panoramic coaches like the one pictured of the Swiss Glacier Express - it would be a howling success and bring tourists flocking to Mid Wales.
The tourist train could serve a hot breakfast out of Shrewsbury plus coffee at Dyfi Junction, then dinner on return from Pwllheli. It would be an overnight sensation, which means it could charge almost what it wanted, such would be its appeal.
