More than 50 people marched through Machynlleth calling for an end to domestic violence.

As part of the White Ribbon campaign, the march through Machynlleth took place on Saturday, 23 November and speakers included Machynlleth mayor Monica Atkins, Rev Canon Kathleen Rogers and town and county councillor Michael Williams.

Mid and west Wales regional AM Joyce Watson hosted the event and said the turnout showed the support for the campaign.

She said: “I was moved to hear the survivors’ stories, and to hear about all the important work being done to support those affected by abuse.

“It was good to hear how the scouts, youth workers and other services are helping young people form healthy, respectful relationships.

“Domestic abuse touches so many lives and I was delighted that such a range of organisations and individuals came together to sign the White Ribbon pledge.”

She added: “I must thank all those who worked so hard to make the event so successful, particularly Kathleen Rogers, who made everything from the white ribbon badges to the cakes.

“I hope local people will want to do this again in future years and we will watch the seeds of the event grow.

“Too many women live in fear of violence, and too many children grow up witnessing the cycle of violence.

“We all need to play our part to change the culture.”
