THE GROUP held its usual monthly meeting at Machynlleth Bowling Club on Friday, 15 April, where they enjoyed a very interesting talk given by Julie McNicholls Vale, the features editor of the Cambrian News, about the history of our local paper.

Spring Fun Day

MEMBERS of Gerddi Bro Ddyfi gardens are inviting everyone to join them for a Spring Fun Day on Saturday, 30 April.The event will be held on the grounds of Plas Machynlleth and runs from 1pm to 4pm.The afternoon will include storytelling, spring garden advice, tea and cake, spring flower walks and an opportunity to simply enjoy nature and have a little fun. New Dyfi PlayersTHE PLAYERS will be holding their AGM on Monday, 25 April, at Plas Dolguog, starting at 7pm.New members are welcome to come along and any previous members who would like to join in again are more than welcome.This will be an opportunity to discuss the next production including exciting ideas for a production this summer and the 36th Mach Panto in 2017. Tenants’ Meeting

JOIN other tenants and members of the Powys Housing Team at a meeting for the Machynlleth and Bro Ddyfi area at Machynlleth Bowling Club on Thursday, 12 May, starting at 4pm.There will be an opportunity for tenants to raise any issues of interest or concern with housing staff and tenant representatives or to find out more about local housing issues. All welcome.

Exhibitions

EXHIBITIONS available for viewing at the Tabernacle Museum of Modern Art include an exhibition of recent acquisitions by the Tabernacle Collection in the Ruralist Room, and Beck Thorley-Fox’s exhibition Estuary to Ocean – Painting the Edge in the foyer.Upstairs in the Pulpit Room, Owen Gallery, the Bridge and also in the Tannery Gallery is the exhibition Romanticism in the Welsh Landscape – a major exhibition exploring the seminal role of Wales in the origin and renewal of Romanticism, from the late 18th century to the present. curated by Dr Peter Wakelin.In the sculpture space is the work Unto the Self, a sculpture by Robert Bryce Muir.The files from Dyfi Valley 2000 are available for inspection in the Green Room when it is not being used for meetings or piano rehearsals and the Taliesin Mosaics are also on show here.The Mela (Festival) Mosaic, created by Martin Cheek to a design by Balraj Khanna, is in the entrance lobby to the auditorium.Admission to the galleries, which are open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm, is free. Donations welcome.

Mach Bowls

THE OFFICIAL opening of Machynlleth’s immaculate Llynlloedd Green will take place on Saturday, 23 April, at 1pm.Club captain Phil Jenkins said: “The green looks in superb condition thanks to hard work over the autumn/winter period and, follow-ing the bowling of the first wood of the day by club president Michael Williams, members will be able to enjoy the club’s annual RNLI pairs’ competition.“For over 35 years this popular competition has raised funds for the Aberdyfi Branch of RNLI.”

Pool

IT’S BEEN cup-fever time in the semi-finals of the Machynlleth and District Pool League’s knockout competitions as teams fought for places in the forthcoming finals day.Recently crowned Division One champions Llew Coch A will be seeking the double after knocking out Dwynant 8-3 in the League Cup to set up a final against Tredegar Arms, 8-5 win-ners over Rugby Club A.Tredegar Arms will contest two finals following an 8-6 victory over Skinners A in the Peter Hampton Cup where, thanks to an 8-2 verdict, White Lion A will be worthy opponents.In the Dai Wyn Davies Division One Cup, Llew Coch A will attempt to make it a hat-trick courtesy of a walk-over against White Lion A. Their rivals will be Rugby Club A, who gained the better of Skinners A 8-5.Foresters, 8-6 winners over Rugby Club C, and Slaters will contest the Cory Rowlands Cup final after beat-ing Penrhos by eight frames to six.

Market Day Talk

CONTINUING the celebration of Romanticism in the Welsh Landscape, William Gibbs will be giving an illustrated talk about the numerous artists who have responded to Llanthony Priory and its valley, including J M W Turner, John Sell Cotman, David Jones and Eric Ravilious.The talk is free and takes place at the Tabernacle in Heol Penrallt on Wednesday, 27 April, at midday.
