An Aberystwyth woman has raised over £1,000 for a new Bronglais Hospital’s chemotherapy unit after completing the Sydney Marathon.
Alice Kemish, who is currently travelling and working in Australia, has completed the marathon in Sydney after she decided she wanted to raise money for the hospital’s chemotherapy unit in memory of her grandmother Babs who received treatment at the unit.
Sadly, Babs passed away last year, and Alice travelled back from Australia to see her grandmother and be with her family.
After completing the marathon, Alice said she has raised just over £1,000 thanks to donations, more than double her target of £500.
She said: “A huge thank you to everyone for their sponsorship and support whilst I trained for the marathon.
“Altogether I raised £1,001.07. That’s double the amount I had hoped for.
“I’m very pleased so much money was raised for the Bronglais chemo unit to make patients’ and their families’ journey a little more comfortable whilst going through really tough times.”
Twenty-five-year old Alice said she had decided to raise the money after seeing the treatment the unit offered her grandmother, but had to face some challenges when she was preparing for the marathon with injury affecting her training.
But Alice got over that to be able to complete the marathon on 15 September.
