A “PETRIFIED” Marie Curie nurse is taking on the world’s fastest zipline to help raise money for her organisation.
Ruth Christie, who lives in Llan Ffestiniog, works night shifts in terminal patients homes providing palliative support and end of life care for patients and families.
Ruth, who took up her profession in honour of her aunty who was cared for by Marie Curie before passing away in 2011, will complete Zipworld’s ‘Velocity’ zipline at Penrhyn Slate Quarry, located near Bethesda.
The nurse explained: “This October I will be taking on the scariest challenge of my life by completing the world’s fastest zipline, which also happens to be the longest in Europe.
“This challenge will see me flying through the air at top speeds of over 100mph - absolutely petrifying!
“I am doing this in memory of my Aunty Marian who was supported by the Marie Curie Nursing service.
“She was an amazing woman, who always wore her heart on her sleeve, and even during her darkest hours, she would bring a smile to people’s faces.
“As a Marie Curie health care assistant I see the importance of supporting people at the time when they need it most.
“The Marie Curie Nursing Service was able to provide one-to-one care to Aunty Marian in the comfort of her own home. Marie Curie was our helping hand, a cup of tea, listening ears, kind and reassuring words, and our comfort.
“All the money I raise will be used to support the local Marie Curie Services.”
