Aberaeron mayor Cllr Elizabeth Evans was special guest at Llanerchaeron parkrun’s first anniversary – and ended up running the entire 5km course herself.
The fleet-footed mayor was among 173 participants who turned out to mark the occasion, many dressed as superheroes.
Before starting the run with a countdown, Cllr Evans congratulated organisers on their achievement over the past year, recognising the event’s "social and economic importance to our community".
In its first year, over 1,300 people have taken part, with an average of over 91 people per week.
Donna Davies and Roger Bennett won prizes for best female and male costume.
Many other prizes were given out to volunteers who have helped throughout the year, with Emyr Davies topping the attendance table!
Runners prizes included most improved, most enthusiastic, highest age grade and most attendance.
Special prizes went to Lena Daniels and Jenny Dicker for their commitment and enthusiasm. Both have shown dedication throughout the year, not only gaining fitness, but encouraging others to do the same.
A special anniversary parkrun cake presented by Karen Morse was crafted with the parkrun emblem.
“This is an amazing movement and the organisers of the Llanerchaeron parkrun should be congratulated,” said Cllr Evans.
“In their first year they have had over 1,300 runners from every corner of the UK.
“There is an incredible spirit amongst the runners which is truly inspiring.
“I urge anyone who wants to be part of a great get-together every Saturday morning to turn up.”
