Madam,

What talent we have in our community. I must thank all those who made possible the party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at Aberystwyth bandstand on 11 June.

It started at 8am with a visit from our fire brigade to erect the buntings. The Silver Band played the two anthems and then Happy Birthday.

Mark Williams MP and Rachel Roberts, Deputy Lord High Sheriff of the county, cut into the lovely cake, which was later cut in half, and given to the fire brigade and the police.

I then presented Fae Hewitt Thomas with her prize after her poster was chosen to advertise the event.

The Samba band started with drumming which got everyone in the mood to party. There was also a professional compere and children’s entertainer. The Hicksters, a Celtic band, came on next and they filled the bandstand. They got everyone’s feet stomping and there was some dancing - the day was on its way.

Scarmony were next. This children’s choir was out of this world and at one time brought tears to our eyes. We should be very proud of them and their parents for their support.

Then there was Abbatak dancing, and they have made it into the world championships. What fitness and acrobatic moves.

Aber Swing came next, and Marta finished up with pop tunes. She has sung on Polish TV and was very entertaining.

Of course this would not have been such a success without the sponsors, the businesses who donated food, drink, raffle prizes, furniture, equipment and flowers. Also all the volunteers who helped from all fields of life. Thanks also to family for selling raffle tickets, which raised £300.

A massive thank you to everyone. We raised £ 1,000, to share between MIND and the local food bank.

Yours etc,

Cllr Mair Benjamin,

Aberystwyth.
