Madam,

Like many people, I would welcome more transparency from Ceredigion County Council and now it seems that this may happen in the near future, with the endorsement of the leader.

Watching the webcast of the county council meeting of 20 September, Cllr Paul James raised the point that the Cabinet, whom he also referred to as the ‘Great Eight’, “make the majority of the decisions”.

He went on to suggest that, in the interests of transparency, the Cabinet meetings should also be broadcast.

When informed by Lowri Edwards, head of democratic services, that there was a cost implication and broadcasting two committees did not offer good value, Cllr James suggested that in future it should be the Cabinet meetings which are broadcast.

This was seconded by Cllr Ceredig Davies, who moved that this be made an agenda item for the next meeting.

The leader of the council, Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn, added: “I have asked in the past more than once for the Cabinet meetings to be broadcast, but the cost was against us. I would be grateful if the committee were to look at that again.”

If it had been policy to broadcast the Cabinet meetings, perhaps it may have led to greater efforts being made to secure the public’s personal data.

Yours etc,

George Holloway, Rhoshendre, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth.
