As Ceredigion gears up to host the National Eisteddfod this year, locals are being asked to add their voice to the choir.

At the start of the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod year, the Eisteddfod choir is restarting rehearsals ready for a special performance at the festival in Tregaron in early August.

It’s not too late to join the choir, and if anyone is interested then go to the next rehearsal at Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron school on Monday, 20 January at 7.30pm.

Organisers are keen to recruit more men to join the choir to ensure vocal balance, so tenors and bassists from all over the catchment area will be particularly welcome!

Fflur Dafydd, Griff Lynch and Lewys Wyn are responsible for Lloergan, which combines arts and science in an innovative and new way, and the project is the pinnacle of a five-year partnership between the National Eisteddfod, the Urdd, Welsh Universities and the Royal Astronomical Society, as part of the society’s bicentenary celebrations.

With the story firmly rooted in the Ceredigion countryside, Eisteddfod organisers are keen to attract people from across the county to be part of this exciting multi-media spoken word and musical project, inspired by astronomy and the local area.

The script and story were created by Fflur Dafydd with songs composed by Griff Lynch and Lewys Wyn. The musical arranger is Rhys Taylor and Hefin Jones is the project’s creative participation designer.

Rhys also leads the rehearsals at Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron.

But before the rehearsals of the Lloergan choir resume, there’s also the chance to join another new choir, the Cymanfa Ganu Choir at the Eisteddfod. These rehearsals will also be held at Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron on Monday evenings at 7.30pm.

The choir is conducted by Delyth Hopkin Evans, and members of all ages are welcome.
