A Ceredigion girl will be greeting Dame Shirley Bassey when she attends Cardiff’s City Hall on Friday to accept the honour of the Freedom of the City and County of Cardiff.
The honorary award is the highest distinction that the Council of the Capital City of Wales can bestow.
Dame Shirley has been nominated for her service to Cardiff, Wales and her patronage of the Noah’s Ark Charity and of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
On arrival at City Hall, Dame Shirley will be greeted by 12-year-old Mia Lloyd from Penparc who spent almost a year receiving treatment at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales for a rare type of cancer.
In November 2017, she underwent an operation to amputate part of her left leg.
Mia is the first-ever young ambassador for the Noah’s Ark Charity and has raised thousands of pounds and represented the charity at various events.
Music will be provided at the event by a choir from Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Music Service and a fanfare will be provided by trumpeters from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
